Dear
Dad,
I
have sent you all kinds of clips & factoids about this, hoping you might reconsider
your Atheist position that everything slowly, but spontaneously generated
out of nothing, but I haven’t perhaps made terribly clear what conclusions all
this points to. I’d really rather not have to spell things out, but I’ll
take a crack at a couple of things here.
For example, fundamental
Evolutionary Theory says that lemurs bred into monkeys,
monkeys bred into apes, and apes bred into man. Now, it’s pretty obvious
that creatures can evolve to adapt to new surroundings, but Evolutionists claim
that ALL living things were bred from a single simple living thing.
This
has never made sense to me. After many enquiries as to why they believe
that (including a double Doctorate “expert” in Evolution), the answer they give
is that
“Mathematical modeling of
compound probabilities shows that
the creation of life is so unlikely it is essentially zero.
Nevertheless, we exist. Therefore we must say there is only
ONE COMMON ANCESTOR for ALL life forms. Our task is to provide the mechanics of how
that can be accomplished.” I have asked many, many
“top academics” about this personally, and this is about the nub of it.
I’d
say evolution can only occur within creatures of a single
chromosomal number; and
the at the plethora of chromosomal numbers point to a plethora of common ancestors.
The series of ascending chromosomal numbers is
Monkeys:
42 chromosomes,
Man: 46 chromosomes;
Apes: 48
chromosomes.
This tells you a few things.
None of these can be blood
relatives. The progression of chromosomal number does NOT match the
progression of
“The Ascent of Man”.
If you were a Theist, you’d almost
think God was setting up a joke on Atheists.
I conclude that the only hypothesis grounded in testable fact is that each
observable chromosomal number came from at least one Ancestral Pair.
A creature of one chromosomal number cannot be drawn from parents of another
chromosomal number. To create offspring, Mom & Dad have to have the same
chromosomal number.
If by way of complete chance a
“Hopeful Monster” of
a different chromosomal number was created, this new line of offspring has the
problem of finding a mate: i.e. a
“Bride of Hopeful Monster” of
the
opposite sex having the same spontaneously generated chromosomal
abnormality and occurring at some point in time and location proximal to our
beloved “Hopeful”. Bride of Hopeful Monster then has to be healthy,
fertile and willing to be impregnated by this peculiar looking creature coming
after her. The joint probabilities of this occurring, I believe, has to be
functionally zero.

By
the way, Dad, to answer you favorite Life Magazine picture of a Skeletal Man and
Skeletal Horse which you say proves Evolution (and Atheism) for you:
a
Horse has 60 chromosomes. We have 46. We are clearly not blood
relatives. I suggest that the commonality is not the their Ancestor,
but their Designer, and the common environment we were designed to exist
in..
For another example, I have also given you lots of information about
monstrous
GIGANTISM of familiar species in the fossil record, such as the
Meganeuropsis Dragonfly shown above. Every one of these
creatures would suffocate in our present atmosphere due to the inadequate
gas pressure in it’s lungs to support it’s mass of body tissue.

What
really stuck in my mind was the gigantic bugs, who have no lungs, and are
utterly
dependent
on gas pressures to supply oxygen to their body tissues through little
membranes on their sides. We’ve got
Fossil
Dragonflies like
Meganeuropsis well over a foot long, thicker than your thumb, and thirty
something inches in wingspan in museums.
Centipedes three feet
long, and as thick as your arm.
These monstrous
insects point to a monstrously
higher gas pressure which points to a monstrously deeper Atmosphere,
which strangely enough is entirely feasible when you look at the
Lapse
Rate Diagrams I sent you.

It shows the locations of TWO layers
of atmospheric water: one above the ozone layer, and one below.
These are called the
Mesosphere and the
Troposphere.
Clearly
something happened to dramatically reduce the depth and volume of our
Atmospheric bubble and asphyxiate the Giants. You will
understand dramatic shifts from one point of stability in a system to
another point of stability as the trip towards minimum system energy is felt
out. It seems pretty clear that the extinction of these Giants had
something to do with the loss of a major fraction of our Atmospheric gas.
Perhaps the it was blown off into space by the same event that created the
Iridium layer (a global layer of iridium dust, above which no dinosaurs
are found), be it the
Chicxulub meteorite, or something like it. A monster meteorite of
that scale could very conceivably create mechanical and thermodynamic
upheavals that would destabilize the upper atmospheric layer, dislodging it.
The destabilized upper gases, having become weightless in it’s
purtebated location, would simply strip off into Space. The gas
pressures at the earth’s crust would drop proportionately. With the
weight of the Upper Atmosphere and the resultant incremental gas pressure at
the crust (which kept the Giants oxygenated) stripped out, the giants would
simply loose breath & suffocate. The change to the present shallow,
chaotic weather systems means that warm-blooded creatures then had the upper
hand. Quite apart from their ability to heat themselves, Mammals have a
gene which tells their bodies to STOP GROWING. Reptiles do not.

Now for another element in the process:
What happens when you drop the pressure above a mixture of solids and
compressible fluids? This is what would be happening at the Earth’s crust
when the atmospheric pressure is dropping rapidly, by maybe 40%. Popping
the cap off a pop bottle provides an illustration.

There
would be a kind of effervescence happening with the loss of pressure, of course.
The now relatively large pressures below the surface in the
primordial gas &
water entrained there would drive these fluids to the surface, creating
fountains and geysers of water and gas as the global system tries to stabilize
after the dramatic loss of atmospheric pressure. Any marginal volcanic and
tectonic activity would be triggered. These would be erupting generally
all about the Globe creating geomorphic and hydrodynamic Chaos at a global
scale.

Read
Genesis 6 about Noah, and you find
this modern, but non-technical man describing events like these from an
eye-witness observer’s point of view. He adds also that prior to the
flood, there was NO RAIN as we know it – only drizzle. We know this is an
accurate description of the Mesozoic atmosphere from the fossil record.
Noah adds that after the Flood, there appeared in the sky a “Bow”
promising that God would never again destroy the Earth by water. (Next
time it will be by Fire!) We know this to be consistent with only the
present weather systems, supposing there was this loss of atmospheric gas as
indicated by the extinction of the Giants.

You and I both know, Dad, the weather systems of the Antediluvian times were
very different from what they are now. Giant ferns and horsetails
can’t grow to such height when the wind speeds are what they are now. We
expect the weather then to be very still by modern standards. We know that
the convective forces are proportional to temperature gradients, and that low
wind speeds are due to low convective forces, and therefore, to low temperature
gradients. This is indicative of a deep, still atmosphere and is all pretty
consistent with what we know of the Mesozoic and it's fossils.
We know that a “Rainbow” doesn’t form
except in rather specific circumstances, which are NOT consistent with the
Mesozoic. The sun has to be behind your back. Raindrops in front of
you have to be falling with sufficient diameter to create the diffused
refraction back to you of the sunlight behind you. We both know that large
water droplets can’t form without proportionally large convective uplifts which
are inconsistent with gigantic flimsy fossil plants and the Mesozoic. Water
droplets above a small angular altitude do not make a ‘Rainbow” for an observer
on the surface. The circumstances needed to create a Rainbow are not generally
present in the Mesozoic.
So here’s the punch line. We are
technical guys, Dad. Noah was
not.
We know how atmospheric convection and rainbows work, Noah didn’t. I ask
you: “How would non-technical Noah be able to invent the story of
the Flood if he had not been an eye-witness of both environmental systems?
Everyone assumes that no modern man has observed the weather of the Mesozoic,
and yet Noah is amazingly accurate in his description of the Antediluvian
weather, and the contrast between it and modern weather. He reports both
the “Fountains of the deep” bursting up (after the confining atmospheric
pressure was lost) and the appearance of the “Bow in the Sky” He
couldn’t have just invented this story, of course, even if he tried. This
is strongly indicative that the story of the Flood is from an eye-witness, such
as Noah.
