BTW, what you see here
can't be "seepage" as a lot of writers say. Water
"seeps" towards lowest pressure. The Vents are a very
HIGH pressure water source, and water moves AWAY from it's
source not to it. You have to wonder why some sites
would say something so silly. See

The water & gas pressure
you see is due to it's being CONFINED by the earth's
crust. These pressures are clearly much greater than
the hydrostatic pressures at the deepest parts of the ocean
to which the vent is now "springing". This writer
believes these pressures are due to the CONSOLIDATION of
mixed materials: solids, liquids & liquefied gases, lain
together during the formation of the planet. The
Hydrothermal Vents also provide a conduit for release of
Strain Energy / heat at depth due to Gravity/Mass into
Space.
